In Case You Missed It: Transit City's Global Public Debut

The all-new Transit City 1 is Ford Pro’s exciting new addition to the legendary Transit family. Designed specifically for urban businesses facing increasing costs and clean air zones, this vehicle is the answer for operators wanting a simple, affordable way to go electric.

Transit City made its global public debut at the Commercial Vehicle Show in Birmingham, UK. Simon Robinson is the chief engineer and was there together with Hans Schep, Ford Pro’s general manager in Europe, to pull the covers off and introduce the van.

How was Transit City received at its global public debut?

I’ve been going to the CV Show for over 20 years, but it’s not often that you get to pull the covers off a totally new vehicle and show the world what you've been working on.

After the positive reception when we first announced Transit City, it was clear that lots of people are excited about what an affordable electric option with Ford Pro’s backing could do for them. All three days on the stand were full of questions from customers, converters and our friends across the industry interested by our single-minded focus on delivering the ideal solution for cash-conscious, urban-based companies.

Can I already order a Transit City?

Yes, you can go online to configure your ideal van and send the details to your nearest Transit Centre. The price of £29,000 for the L1 van will help cost-conscious businesses make the switch to electric vehicles and benefit from the significant reductions available in total cost of ownership. The L2 van and chassis cab (before conversion) both start at £31,500.

We’ve also finalised our servicing details, and I’m happy to say that Transit City has the same two-year/unlimited distance service interval as the rest of the electric Transit family to help deliver further uptime, productivity and lower cost of ownership. In fact, we anticipate servicing costs to be up to 40 per cent lower 2 than for an equivalent diesel vehicle.

We also released the Body, Equipment and Mouting Manual (BEMM) so converters can safely and effectively convert Transit City to suit customers' specific requirements.

I’m interested — what next?

Customers in the UK can find the ideal Transit City for their business using our configurator. It shouldn’t take long, as all the boxes you want ticked — a rear-view camera, smartphone integration, 3 heated driver’s seat and keyless start — come as standard. You just need to pick your van’s size and colour.
